Meet the Real-Life Partners of the Grey’s Anatomy Cast (Including One On-Set Romance!)
Grey’s Anatomy has captivated audiences for over 21 seasons with its rollercoaster of love stories, but off-screen, many of the show’s stars have built lasting relationships of their own. While drama and heartbreak fill the halls of Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital, the cast members’ real-life romances are often far less turbulent—and much more enduring.
From longtime marriages to couples who met on set, here’s a look at the real-life loves of the Grey’s Anatomy cast.
Ellen Pompeo & Chris Ivery
Ellen Pompeo, best known for portraying Meredith Grey, has been happily married to music producer Chris Ivery since 2007. The couple first crossed paths in 2003 at a grocery store, though their love story didn’t start with immediate sparks.
“It’s not some big romance that happened over crackers and cheese in the aisle,” Pompeo shared during a 2022 interview. After several phone calls (and a bit of a disagreement), the two eventually hit it off. Now, nearly two decades later, they share three children: Stella Luna, Sienna May, and Eli Christopher.
Though Ivery has always been supportive of his wife’s career, he admitted it took some time to adjust to her on-screen romances. “In the beginning, it was really hard for him,” Pompeo revealed, referencing her character’s steamy scenes. However, their strong bond has kept them going through the years.
Camilla Luddington & Matthew Alan
Camilla Luddington, who plays Dr. Jo Wilson, has been with her husband, actor Matthew Alan, since 2008. The pair had their first date at a Temper Trap concert, a moment Luddington honored by walking down the aisle to the band’s song “Sweet Disposition” when they married in 2019.
The couple shares two children: daughter Hayden, born in 2017, and son Lucas, born in 2020. Their wedding was an intimate ceremony along the California coastline, attended by close friends and family, including Grey’s Anatomy alum Jessica Capshaw.
Caterina Scorsone
Caterina Scorsone, known for playing Dr. Amelia Shepherd, was married to musician Rob Giles for 10 years before the couple split in 2020. Despite their separation, the two remain committed to co-parenting their three daughters: Eliza, Paloma “Pippa” Michaela, and Arwen.
“Caterina and Rob have separated,” their reps confirmed in 2020. “They remain friends and are committed to co-parenting their children in a spirit of love.”
From longtime loves to recent romances, the Grey’s Anatomy cast members’ real-life relationships prove that love can thrive—even beyond the drama of the OR.
