She is my love!
Billie Eilish, a singer-songwriter, and Finneas, her brother, have expressed their elation over the nomination of the Barbie song “What Was I Made For?” in the Best Original Song category at the 96th Academy Awards.
“We are incredibly honored to receive a nomination for ‘What Was I Made For’,” they wrote alongside a photo of her hugging Barbie star Margot Robbie on Instagram on Wednesday.
Additionally, the nomination means “everything” to the brother-sister duo, who are “lifelong enthusiasts of film, film music, and the Academy Awards,” they stated.
Eilish and her brother and collaborator Finneas, with whom she co-wrote the composition in a single night, expressed their gratitude to the Academy and its members for recognizing them alongside so many other songwriters. They further stated, “Our profound appreciation and recognition are extended to the unparalleled Greta Gerwig and Noah Baumbach for their brilliant conception and implementation, the entire Barbie cast and crew, Lucky Chap Entertainment, and the Warner Bros. Pictures team.”
Additionally, the group expressed gratitude to Andrew Wyatt, an American musician and co-composer of the Barbie soundtrack, and Mark Ronson, a British DJ-record producer, for “so skillfully weaving their song into the fabric and heart of this film.” In closing, they expressed gratitude to Margot Robbie, praising the actress for her “brilliant performance” and “incredible foresight” as a producer, both of which had an impact on them during the process of penning the song’s lyrics.
The Ocean Eyes singer wrote in the caption of her post, “We are perpetually grateful to the esteemed members of @theacademy for nominating ‘What Was I Made For?’” for this honor and for having contributed to ‘Barbiethemovie.’”
The song What Was I Made For by Barbie? This is the second Oscar nomination for the brother-sister duo, following their historic victory in 2022 for the James Bond theme song No Time To Die. Additionally, the tune was awarded Best Original tune at the 81st Golden Globes just recently.
The other nominees in the same category are I’m Just Ken by Ryan Gosling from Barbie, Wahzhazhe (A Song for my People) by Scott George from Killers of the Flower Moon, The Fire Inside by Becky G and Diane Warren from Flamin’ Hot, and It Never Went Away by Jon Batiste and Dan Wilson from the Netflix documentary American Symphony.
