A family divided opinion after turning their dead Golden Retriever into a rug for their living room. Would you consider this unusual form of remembrance for your own dog?

In October last year, an Australian family made headlines when it was revealed they had turned to Melbourne-based company Chimera Taxidermy to have their late dog’s skin and fur preserved as a rug.

Speaking with the company owner said, “Pet taxidermy has only really become more popular in the last five years or so, so it’s a very new thing to see for most people. Some are more of a sentimental keepsake, others are on display resting in their beds or however their owners wanted them preserved. Most of the requests I get are for full taxidermy mounts; pelt preservation is less commonly asked for, but I still do quite a few pelts.”

Opinions were divided, with some saying it was a heartwarming keepsake, whilst others found it disrespectful; yet others said they understood the sentiment, but that it was definitely not how they would choose to commemorate their late dog.

What would you do – would you consider this form of remembrance for your own dog?
