Defense attorneys for Sean “P. Diddy” Combs made a plea to the judge to grant him bail on a $50 million bond, but their request was denied. Diddy is currently being held at the Metropolitan Detention Center (MDC) in Brooklyn, New York. In a letter to the court, Diddy’s attorney emphasized the concerning conditions at MDC, stating, “Several courts in this District have recognized that the conditions at Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn are not fit for pre-trial detention. Just earlier this summer, an inmate was murdered.”
The attorney further noted that at least four inmates have died by suicide in the past three years, with multiple courts expressing concerns about the horrific detention conditions.
With widespread reports highlighting the prison’s deteriorating state, a visit was made to Industry City to assess the facility firsthand. The journey to the MDC revealed a neighborhood characterized by crumbling buildings and neglected infrastructure, with the jail situated behind a highway bridge.
Upon arrival, the condition of the MDC became evident, with broken sections of concrete on the walls and uneven cracks in the sidewalks. In stark contrast, a nearby building boasted well-maintained brick walls and manicured trees, showcasing the difference in upkeep. Workers were actively painting and repairing the neighboring property, indicating regular maintenance that was clearly lacking at the jail.
The MDC appeared similarly neglected, with damaged stairs and weeds sprouting through cracks in the pavement. The area was littered with trash, including an orange peel and empty boxes, as debris rolled in the wind. Rusting metal doors displayed stern warnings against firearms and weapons, further emphasizing the facility’s dilapidated state.
