Things move quickly in NFL free agency and a signing can happen at literally any time. We saw that first hand on Wednesday, when Dallas Cowboys wide receiver CeeDee Lamb found out about his now-former teammate, DeMarcus Lawrence, signing with the Seattle Seahawks while he was on a live stream.
Lamb was in the back seat of a car when he found out that Lawrence was going to Seattle on a reported three-year deal that’s worth a max value of $42 million, which ends his 11-year run in Dallas that included four Pro Bowl nods and a second-team All-Pro selection.
We know what Lamb was doing when the deal went down because he was on Kick streamer N3on’s livestream when the signing occurred. Lamb was clearly upset to be losing his teammate, but he was also happy that Lawrence got himself a nice deal in free agency. Check out his live reaction below.
The signing is a significant one for the Seahawks, who needed to replace Dre’Mont Jones upfront. Jones was cut by Seattle but has since landed with the Tennessee Titans, signing a three-year, $51.53 million deal.
Lawrence had hoped to stay with the Cowboys following an injury-plagued 2024 campaign, but clearly that was not in the cards.
“The ball is in their court. I’m not only going to play in Dallas,” he said in February, according to Mac Engel of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram. “I’m going to have other options, but I’d like to stay here. It would be a glorious thing.”
In Lawrence, the Seahawks are getting a good defender who can make a big impact in both the pass-rush and against the run. In 2023, which was his last healthy year, Lawrence finished 21st and second among edge defenders in Pro Football Focus pass-rush (80.3) and run defense grades (92.4), respectively.
