Cameron Brink is a bride-to-be — and still can’t believe it!

The 22-year-old WNBA star’s fiancé Ben Felter popped the question during a trip to Paris Fashion Week on Sept. 30, and Brink tells PEOPLE she was completely surprised by the romantic proposal.

“I found out I was going to Paris about a month before to go to the Balenciaga show and they were going to dress me,” Brink says, while speaking about her new partnership with SoFi.

The Los Angeles Spark says she was “going back and forth” between agreeing to the trip at all as she continues “working really hard rehabbing” following a surgery on her torn ACL.

“And I’m in school right now,” says the newly-engaged baller.

“But I was like, ‘I’m working so hard. Why not just go and enjoy it?’ because I’ve always wanted to do something like that, and long story short, we go to the show.”

Following the runway show — which Brink, who wore a head-to-toe leopard ensemble, says was “amazing” — the WNBA star was under the impression that her evening would end with the Balenciaga after party.

“I think I’m getting ready for the after party, but in actuality, the after party is my fiancé waiting for me at the top of the Shangri-La in Paris,” she says.

“It was the most beautiful view,” adds Brink, who says Felter pulled off the proposal — and flying out to Paris — without her ever catching on. “He completely surprised me! I had absolutely no clue, which, I don’t know how they hid it from me.”

Felter, who just started his fifth year as a graduate in Stanford’s computer science program, told her he had had work to do on the West Coast.

“It was a super, super unforgettable experience and it was just amazing,” Brink tells PEOPLE during a conversation about her SoFi partnership to launch their Give Her Credit campaign alongside Venus Williams.

Brink and Felter first met at Stanford, where he was a rower and she became a star on the school’s basketball team. They started dating on March 10, 2021, and though they keep their relationship mostly private, last March, they marked their third anniversary with sweet posts on Instagram.

In June, Brink told PEOPLE she and Felter enjoy beach days and hiking together during their free time in Los Angeles, and the former rower even taught her how to surf.

Felter also inspired another of his fiancée’s recent passions, turning her into “a huge art lover,” Brink shared. “I love pottery and watercolor, even though I’m terrible,” she said. “It’s really lovely to just sit down and work your brain in a different way for a little bit.”
