is a rescue and rehoming centre for dogs and cats; they care for more than 400 dogs and cats each year, providing care for up to 40 dogs and 30 cats at any one time. Some of the dogs in their care have been there for some time, and more than ready to find their forever home. Could it be yours, or that of someone you know?
Fleur
‘Fantastic Fleur’ here! I am a healthy, playful one/two year old German Shepherd crossbreed. I am smart and learn new things very quickly and am keen to please you. I love playing with my toys, going for walks and receiving lots of praise.
When I first arrived at the Centre I was a little unsure of my new surroundings and new people who were caring for me. The team think that someone may not have always been kind and gentle with me because I take a little time to trust new people. I just want to be sure that they are going to be nice to me.
I have grown in confidence and continue to flourish because everyone is so nice to me here. I thrive on praise and tasty treat rewards. Just bear in mind that I do like to steal food and don’t like to give it up!
I will be a very loyal and loving companion and am looking for a new owner that will understand I may need a little time to adjust to a new routine and to build a bond of trust.
I am looking for an experienced adult only home where I will only be left for very short periods of time initially until I feel content and settled. A nice secure garden to play in is essential and I would like to be the only pet in my new home but it would be great if I could make a few new doggy friends so we could go for walks together.
Lacey
I am a bubbly, playful Bearded Collie cross who is patiently waiting for my perfect match. Being only nine months old, I still have so much to learn and am looking for someone with plenty of experience around my breed who can help guide me on my way. Sadly, I haven’t had the best of upbringings, and do need a lot of help learning how to remain calm in excitable situations.
Like most collies, I am ball obsessed, and will happily play football with you for hours on end! It really is my favourite sport. I have also been told that I am quite the keen sniffer, and love to use my nose to seek out new and exciting things, particularly when out on a walk. I would absolutely love to find someone who would be interested in helping me shape this skill with the help of scent work classes, and maybe even agility and flyball classes once I am a little older! Either way, it is really important that I am kept entertained as I am a real busy bee, life is just way to exciting to spend all day in the home!
Above anything else, the thing I love most is spending quality time with my human friends, and I hate nothing more than when they have to leave me alone. I often get very confused and worried without them, and have been known to do everything I can to stop them leaving me alone. However, with the help of the team at LAA, I am really starting to learn that being alone for short periods isn’t as bad as I first thought, especially if I’m left with some tasty treats and my trusty football.
I heard the team were super impressed with my progress recently, well what I can say! If I can find the right person to help me continue to thrive then who knows where life may take me next.
I do quite like other dogs, and but I have been known to get a little over-excited at times and the team keep telling me that not everyone is a match for my energy. Not that this phases me, as long as my humans are around to play with me that is all that really matters. I wouldn’t say no to a few doggy friends that I can have a play with down the park now and then, however. Kids sadly, just really aren’t my thing, and I really would prefer to live my life without the worry of tiny humans where possible.
Lacey will need an experienced owner, preferably with very good knowledge of Collie’s specifically. Lacey has been known to grab at arms and legs out of frustration and anxiety when being left alone, but we are seeing less and less of that behaviour with each day that passes. Lacey would need an owner patient and confident enough to continue her positive training within the home. Sadly Lacey cannot live with children and would not be suitable to be around visiting children.
Nala
‘Nala Nugget’ here! A gentle, bouncy bundle of fun! A real centre of attention kind of girl so do give me the limelight I deserve! I love everyone I meet but I am very strong and require a sturdy walker and handler who is experienced not just with my breed but large dogs in general as when I am excited I forget you are on the end of the lead. An over sized pup I do forget my size myself and how high my paws can reach so ensure I have high fencing and a large private garden you don’t mind me racing around in and digging my own wallows! I am highly intelligent but just need steering in the right direction when it comes to my focus and training.
Sociable with some dogs I do want to still meet doggy friends out on the park. Due to my size and guarding tendencies I want to be the only animal in my new home. Being so young I will need a gradual build up in leave time and further confidence work so I can be left for a few hours on my own at a later stage. I do love to currently sleep on the worktops so I can see out of the window. I am interested in anything left where my nose and paws can get to and sadly when left too long I am destructive and howl. I love my food and toys so get plenty of those on hand and due to my excitability I would be compatible around older teenage children and adults.
Phil
Two year old ‘Lil Phil’ here! Happy as they come and ready to meet and greet everyone! Being an ex racer I am quick on my paws so keep me on lead and muzzled as those little animals won’t know what’s chasing them! As loyal as they come, I rarely leave your side indoors and love to follow you about like your shadow.
Housetraining is taking a little longer than expected and I prefer to go when you are not about so be patient with me. I require a gradual increase in my leave time as I’d prefer to be with you and am getting used to homely comforts and getting my paws into my first home is going to be so exciting! I love my food and treats so ensure we have plenty of those in stock. Now homing wise, I am sociable so could live with another large breed of dog and children, eight years above.
