Hilaria Baldwin’s Special Gift to Alec Before Rust Trial: A Symbol of Protection and Support
As Alec Baldwin prepared to face trial for the Rust shooting incident, his wife, Hilaria Baldwin, found a meaningful way to show her unwavering support.
In the March 2 episode of TLC’s The Baldwins, Hilaria, 41, revealed that she had planned a heartfelt anniversary gift for Alec, 66—just two days before his trial for the accidental shooting death of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins in 2021.
Speaking with her eldest daughter, Carmen Gabriela, 11, Hilaria shared that she was giving Alec a St. Michael necklace and a silk scarf depicting the religious figure. She hoped the necklace would serve as a reminder that he is loved and not alone. “I’m hoping that he’ll wear it, and it says we’re here to protect you, stand with you, love you,” she told Carmen, adding in Spanish, “We are a good team. May God be with you today and always.”
Hilaria expressed in a confessional that, regardless of whether she traveled to New Mexico for the trial, she wanted Alec to feel her presence. “I am always with him,” she said. “And I hope that this gift will be something that he can hold with him every single day and know that I am by his side.”
As the trial neared, Hilaria admitted to moments of fear and anxiety. “In my very bad moments, my mind starts to wander and spiral. I think about the worst-case scenario. If they convince people to find him guilty, they could take him away right there,” she said.
Two days before the trial, she presented Alec with the gifts, explaining that St. Michael is known as the “saint of protection.” Alec lightheartedly responded, “Let’s get his cell phone number.” However, the necklace didn’t quite fit, leading to an unexpected hiccup. Despite this, Hilaria emphasized the importance of faith during difficult times. “One of the most important things when facing challenges is to know that there’s something bigger than us—regardless of what you believe. Faith will guide us out of this dark period,” she said.
Alec also had a gift for Hilaria—a set of pearl earrings and a heartfelt card, in which he reassured her that they would “rebuild” after the trial. With his signature humor, he joked, “If it doesn’t go well, we have to sell those earrings right away.”
Alec was tried in New Mexico for involuntary manslaughter in connection with the Rust shooting incident, in which a prop gun discharged, killing Hutchins and injuring director Joel Souza. Although he maintained that he did not pull the trigger and was unaware the gun contained live ammunition, he faced up to 18 months in prison. However, during the trial in July 2024, his legal team successfully argued that the prosecution had withheld evidence, leading the judge to dismiss the case with prejudice on the third day of proceedings.
Through it all, Hilaria stood firmly by Alec’s side, offering not just material gifts but also a deep sense of emotional and spiritual support.
