Young Outfielder Selected by Dodgers in 6th Round, 195th Overall
TAMAQUA, PA – A promising new chapter has begun for Mason Ligenza, a young talent from Tamaqua, as the Los Angeles Dodgers have officially selected him in the 6th round of the 2025 MLB Draft, with the 195th overall pick.
It’s no coincidence that Ligenza has been on the radar of one of Major League Baseball’s most prestigious teams. It’s the result of a long journey – one that began at Dutch Hill, where he was a standout in the Tamaqua Little League.
“We’ve never seen a young player who embodies Mason’s character traits: hard-working, composed, and always putting the team before himself,” said Ligenza’s high school coach.
A Journey from the Basics
Not a nationally known prospect, Mason Ligenza stands out for his consistency, versatility, and tireless work ethic. With the Blue Raiders, he led the team in batting average and stolen bases for two consecutive seasons, and impressed in regional showcases with his ability to read the ball and handle situations intelligently in the outfield.
Experts consider Ligenza to be a player with the potential to thrive in a professional environment, with a disciplined playing style and a modern competitive mindset.
“Mason has a good physical foundation, excellent ball vision, and solid defense. More importantly, he is an ideal teammate – something MLB organizations are always looking for,” said a Dodgers scout.
A representative of the younger generation in Tamaqua
The event of Mason being drafted caused a stir in Pennsylvania, especially in the local sports community. By officially joining the Dodgers training system, he became one of the rare professional players to come out of Tamaqua – a small town with a rich sports tradition.
The town mayor sent an official congratulation, and at the same time called on school boards to honor Ligenza as a role model for the next generation of students.
Towards the professional journey
With being drafted by the Dodgers, Mason Ligenza will soon join the team’s minor league system to begin his journey to conquer MLB – the most rigorous tournament on the planet. Here, he will have to compete with hundreds of other talents to find the opportunity to debut in the main squad in the near future.
However, with a persistent competitive spirit, high concentration and a solid foundation of discipline, Ligenza is expected to gradually assert his position.
